Igor Stravinsky – Minimalist

on November 29th, 2011 | Filed under Quotes

Over 70 years ago, Igor Stravinsky, composer, pianist, and conductor, put it famously in “The Poetics of Music”, “The more art is controlled, limited, worked over, the more it is free.” –pages later saying, “…My freedom will be so much the greater and more meaningful the more narrowly I limit my field of action, and more the I surround myself with obstacles. Whatever diminished constraint, diminished strength. The more constraints one imposes, the more one frees one’s self of the chains that shackle the spirit.”
